2010 Competition
The 32nd Inter University Gliding Competition will be hosted by Nottingham University Gliding Club, at Bicester airfield, from the 7th to the 15th of August, 2010.
This will be the 9th time that Nottingham have hosted the competition, and the 3rd time it has been at Bicester, who have offered us a great deal. We have exclusive use of 2 of Windrushers' two-seaters for the week, and use of the rest of their fleet when it is available as well. WGC instructors are also available to help with the week, including one full-time instructor for use by the Universities. Visiting instructors are of course also welcome. Camping for the week will be free, and there will be a £10 charge for a week's membership for students.
This year, we aim to continue trialling the soaring competition introduced last year, by running it as a separate competition. This has been adapted from the Oxbridge varsity rules, and provides an interesting new element to the inter unis for those who aren't after any badges, but who can't go cross country either. We hope it will encourage more people to fly during the week and get the most out of the soaring opportunities, as well as give some less experienced pilots the chance to practise and refine soaring techniques, and even introduce soaring to pre-solo pilots, who may compete with an instructor in the back seat.
Above all, we want everyone to enjoy flying with us, and have a fantastic week. We aim to organise lots of social activities for the evenings and encourage you to bring as many pilots as possible to compete for your university!
Registration will open on this website in the coming months - watch this space!
