Before Arriving
Hello everybody!
The Interunis 2010 are very close now so I thought I should send you an email with some information! First of all thank you all for signing up! I was incredibly happy when we hit 80 individual entries and I am very excited about seeing you all next week!
There are a couple of things you should all know beforehand. First of all, it would be incredibly useful if you could read through the briefing notes about Bicester Airfield. Anybody who intends to fly solo there needs to be familiar with the airspace, the local rules, etc. Most of the information can be found under the Airfield section at Windrushers' website at http://www.windrushers.org.uk/.
There will be some more information during the briefings on the first few days and of course local instructors will provide you with check flights and any information you should need. Of course you can also find some information especially about scoring on the Inter Unis Website at http://www.interunis.co.uk/.
If you plan to fly solo please remember your current medical. Nobody can fly solo without one! And if you are a pre-solo pilot it would be useful if you could bring your training card along to make it easier for the instructors there. There should be reduced faff when you all arrive at the airfield as your membership forms should all be printed by then. All you need to do is to sign them and hand them into the office to get your membership number. You will need to remember that number when you fly.
Unfortunately only one two-seater is now available for training from Bicester as the second one is U/S. However four clubs are bringing along 2-seaters so I am hopeful that we can sort everybody out between us. Hopefully all the two-seaters will fit in the hangar but please consider bringing a tie-down kit or be prepared to de-rig as there may not be enough space. Anybody with an open trailer will definitely get a spot in the hangar. Any other trailers can be parked in the usual trailer area.
Windrushers are happy for you all to arrive on Friday evening. I believe there is a flying evening going on that evening and there is some food but certainly not enough to cater for all of us, so it is first come first served. The gate lock will hopefully be repaired by then -the code is C1215. If that does not work you can just about fit your fingers through the other side... There is a designated area for people to pitch their tents and park any caravans. Please drive carefully around the airfield and respect the speed limit of 20 mph.
As for food during the week, there will be breakfast and lunches served throughout the week. Dinner will only be available at the weekend and on Friday towards the end of the week. All other social events will be announced at the briefings. There will be briefings each day at 9am at the briefing area in the hangar. The first briefing will be on Saturday the 7th August. The first few days the two local instructors will concentrate on getting you a check flight if you require one. If you think you don't need one please make sure that the local full-cat thinks so too! Also as you may know the launch prices will be cheaper during the week if we can work the winch and the cable retrieves ourselves, so it would be great if any volunteers will get themselves familiarised with the local winch or the retrieve system.
This should cover all the admin aspects, so you shall be glad to hear I am done now! If you have any questions please let me know. Anyhow, I hope you are all as excited as we are about this week and I hope we will all have a fantastic week of flying and fun!
See you all soon,
