Accessibility

Every attempt has been made to make this website as accessible as possible to anyone using a browser or device that can interpret modern web standards. This page outlines some of the measures taken to ensure this.

Where possible, this site is coded to meet the standards set out by the WCAG Samurai Group, a group of developers who take a practical and evidence-driven look at accessibility.

This website is coded using HTML 4.01 and CSS 2.1, with JavaScript providing some extra features as well. We have tried to build the site in such a way that those users without Javascript and/or CSS enabled will be able to use the site, although the experience may not be the same, and some pages require it.

Every page on this site validates to the HTML 4.01 standard, as recommended by the W3C, the web's governing body.

Access keys are not used on this site, because of the inconsistent way in which browser manufacturers implement them, and the potential problems of keys clashing with in-built browser functionality. Every modern browser has keyboard navigation as a feature and so access keys shouldn't be needed.

All images on the site have alternative text specified where appropriate, so that users with images turned off can still understand the content of the page.
